CANOE Courses
Why join a Canoe course with Of Paths and Paddles?
Have you ever wanted to learn how to paddle your own canoe but never had the chance? Have you always looked with longing at people paddling past you and thought, if only….?
Well now is the time to take action.
Our canoe courses are a fun, relaxed, challenging, different way to spend your time. Just imagine, you and a group of like-minded women, paddling smoothly along a stretch of water. All you can see are trees, the sky, wildlife, your new friends and the water in front of you, reflecting the beautiful outdoors all around you. You can sense the calm, feel connected, empowered, strong and with each paddle stroke, you will push yourself further and further from your old comfort zone.
Afterwards, you will feel the warmth from the laughter, clear-headed from the fresh air and clarity from giving yourself space to enjoy yourself. Oh, and you’ll be able to paddle better and with more confidence.
Sound good?
The benefits of a canoe course with the team at Of Paths and Paddles
- It’s a challenge – challenges expand your thinking and allow you to believe other things are possible
- As you paddle along, with a rhythm, you think of nothing other than paddling and somehow you clear your head, so you return with a feeling of elation, from the accomplishment, and clarity and headspace from doing something completely different.
- It’s fun, relaxing, challenging, different.
- You will have experienced the coaching you need, in a quiet, calm, patient way.
- If it’s new to you, you’ll have a feeling of accomplishment; of overcoming fear, of being empowered, you’ll start outside your comfort zone, and by the end of the session your comfort zone will have grown.
- A group of supportive women of all abilities, all wanting the same thing – sharing the fun of time on the water
- Give you the confidence to overcome other fears, learn new skills
- Freedom from your usual four walls – home or office
- Puts the hustle of the day/week behind you and into a new perspective
- You change your pace to that of the river, so you slow down, relax, concentrate on something completely different.
What happens on a canoe course?
We meet at a predetermined location for a safety briefing and, if required, a car shuttle (that’s where you take the cars to the end, come back to the start and paddle to your car).
We unload the boats. We do a little introduction to safety, to the water and how to paddle and we go for a paddle. We stop for regular breaks and to enjoy the views along the way. We have fun. We chatter. We talk and think about the things that matter. We laugh. At the end of the day, we get changed out of our safety gear, and into dry clothes if we need to, and we have a debrief at a cafe or tea shop where possible, before heading home.
We don’t aim to get wet. We aim to stay as dry as possible, but this is canoeing and we cannot guarantee that you will stay dry. Totally expect your feet to be wet. Be prepared to get wet.
Equipment you need to bring
We will provide you with buoyancy aids, unless you have your own.
You will need to provide:
- waterproof coat
- waterproof trousers
- complete change of clothing
- towel
